Mona Omar Abdel-Aziz Hassan (b. 1989, Egypt) is a contemporary Egyptian artist, researcher, and lecturer whose figurative practice explores the emotional memory of human experience. Rather than depicting memories as fixed records of the past, she investigates how they evolve over time - fading, fragmenting, and quietly reshaping themselves through emotion.

Her distinctive visual language is characterised by monochromatic figurative painting inspired by vintage cinema and family photographs, interrupted by luminous fluorescent forms that cut through the image like emotional echoes. Figures gradually dissolve into expressive brushstrokes, their features suspended between appearance and disappearance, suggesting that memory is never preserved intact but continuously reconstructed. These fluorescent interventions become visual metaphors for hope, resilience, and the emotional intensity with which certain moments continue to exist long after they have passed.

Rather than documenting personal narratives, Mona transforms familiar scenes into universal reflections on love, motherhood, nostalgia, and human connection. The dialogue between dissolving forms and vibrant colour creates paintings that exist between reality and remembrance, where absence becomes as meaningful as presence.

Working across acrylic, oil, watercolor, and mixed media, she combines expressive painterly gestures with carefully structured compositions, creating works that are both emotionally intimate and visually striking.

Mona graduated with Honors from the Faculty of Applied Arts, Helwan University (now Capital University), in 2011, specialising in Ornamentation. She earned her Master's degree in Applied Arts in 2018 and completed her PhD in 2023. She is currently a lecturer at the Faculty of Applied Arts, Badr University in Cairo. Alongside her academic career, she has participated in numerous workshops and group exhibitions in Egypt and internationally, continuously expanding her dialogue between artistic research and contemporary painting.

Through her work, Mona Omar invites viewers to recognise fragments of their own emotional histories, revealing that memory is not a place we return to, but something we continually recreate.
