Masha Joy (b. 2003, Egypt) is a self-taught contemporary artist whose practice explores emotional intensity, identity and the experience of becoming. Working primarily with portraits and figurative scenes, she uses the human figure as a vehicle for mood, tension and inner movement.

Her work is particularly drawn to adolescence and the transitional states surrounding it - a period marked by vulnerability, contradiction, self-discovery and emotional intensity. Rather than depicting emotions literally, Joy uses colour as an expressive language through which inner states become visible.

Her figures often appear quiet or restrained, while saturated colour and expressive compositions reveal the emotional energy beneath the surface. Her practice is rooted in intuition, allowing feelings and spontaneous responses to guide the painting process.

"My work lives where feelings are louder than explanations."

My work explores emotional intensity as a physical and visual experience. I am drawn to adolescence not simply as an age, but as a state of becoming - unstable, vulnerable and radically honest.

I work with portraits and figurative scenes, using the human body as a carrier of mood, tension and inner movement. My figures may appear calm or contained, while colour reveals what exists beneath that surface: emotional overflow, contradiction and unspoken energy.

As a self-taught artist, I trust intuition over correction. Colour is my primary language - not illustrative, but emotional. It allows feelings to surface before they can be organised, explained or controlled.

I am interested in moments when identity is still forming, when confidence and insecurity coexist, and when emotions resist being muted. My work remains within this intensity rather than seeking resolution. It is an exploration of feelings as they are experienced - immediate, contradictory and unfinished.
