Biography

Ingy Zahran (b. 1985, Cairo, Egypt) is an Egyptian contemporary abstract artist living and working in Cairo. Her artistic practice is shaped by an unusual dialogue between engineering precision and intuitive expression.

Holding a Master of Science in Engineering and an MBA in Project Management, Zahran spent years working in technical design before dedicating herself fully to painting. Although self-taught, she has developed a distinctive visual language that seamlessly combines geometric structure with organic movement, reflecting the balance between analytical thinking and emotional freedom.

Working primarily with acrylics and mixed media, Zahran creates layered compositions that explore rhythm, depth, and human connection. Her paintings shift between architectural forms and fluid abstractions, inviting viewers into spaces where order and spontaneity coexist. Rather than presenting fixed narratives, her works remain open to interpretation, encouraging personal reflection through color, texture, and light.

Her work has been presented in group exhibitions, including the Empower Her Art Forum at the Grand Egyptian Museum and the Capital Business Park exhibition in Cairo, as well as internationally at World Art Dubai with Artezaar Gallery. Her paintings are held in private collections in Egypt and the United States.

Based in her independent studio in Cairo, Zahran continues to expand her practice through large-scale abstract paintings while preparing new bodies of work for international exhibitions and gallery collaborations.

Artist Statement

My paintings explore the meeting point between structure and intuition.

Coming from an engineering background, I spent years working within systems defined by precision, logic, and control. Painting became a space where those same principles could dissolve into something more instinctive. Rather than abandoning structure, I allow it to coexist with fluidity, creating a visual conversation between discipline and freedom.

Working primarily with acrylics and mixed media, I build layered compositions that balance geometric forms with organic movement. Transparent veils of color, textured surfaces, and architectural lines create spaces that continue to reveal themselves over time. Each layer responds to the previous one, allowing the work to develop through both deliberate decisions and unexpected discoveries.

I do not aim to tell a single story. Instead, I create paintings that remain open to interpretation, changing with light, environment, and the emotional state of the viewer. The same work may communicate strength one day and quiet contemplation the next.

For me, abstraction is not an escape from reality but a way of experiencing it more deeply. It offers a space where logic and emotion, certainty and uncertainty, can exist together—inviting viewers to slow down, engage, and discover their own meaning within the work.
