Artist Biography

Ahmed Omar Mohammed Abdul-Aziz is an Egyptian visual artist and lecturer at the Higher Institute of Applied Arts in 6th of October City. He holds a PhD in Educational Technology from the Faculty of Art Education at Capital University (formerly Helwan University).

His artistic practice encompasses painting, mural painting and photography, with a particular focus on expressive acrylic painting. His work explores universal questions of human existence, identity, freedom and spiritual transformation through recurring imagery of the human body, portraiture and birds.

Alongside his studio practice, Ahmed Omar has designed and executed murals for commercial and residential spaces and has supervised workshops and artistic activities across a range of disciplines. He has also served as a judge for competitions and artistic events organised by the Ministry of Higher Education and has supervised student activities and competitions.

His recent exhibition history includes the international group exhibition Symphony of the Scene at the Cairo Atelier (2026), Black and White-3 at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Innovation University (2026), and Shared Spaces at the Dr Mokhtar Abdel Gawad Gallery, Academy of Arts (2026). In 2012, he presented the solo exhibition Military and Freedom at the Saad Zaghloul Cultural Centre, Fine Arts Sector, Cairo.

Artist Statement

For me, painting is a visual space for exploring the essence of human existence and the idea of absolute freedom. My practice is centred on three interconnected elements - the portrait, the human body and birds - which I use to create expressive compositions that celebrate the inherent dignity and sacred value of the human being beyond geographical, ethnic or ideological affiliations.

The human body and portrait serve as representations of an essential, universal identity. Through expressive lines, gestures and distortions of form, I seek to move beyond physical appearance and reach the authentic emotions, vulnerability and innate dignity that exist within every individual. The body becomes both a physical presence and a metaphor for the human condition - carrying memories, struggles, aspirations and the continuous desire to transcend limitation.

Birds function as dynamic visual symbols of liberation and release. Their movement and presence create a dialogue with the human figure, reflecting the persistent human pursuit of freedom and spiritual elevation. This relationship between body and bird allows me to explore the tension between earthly existence and the desire to rise beyond its boundaries.

My use of acrylic enables me to build multiple layers while maintaining a sense of immediacy and expressive energy. Brushstrokes, colour transitions and textured surfaces become essential parts of the visual language, conveying the vitality of the human body and the movement of wings. Through this combination of figure, symbolism, colour and gesture, I seek to create works that connect the viewer with a shared human experience and invite reflection on freedom, identity and the deeper dimensions of existence.
